Hokulea on route to UN Conf in Samoa - Oiwi TV

Earth is a blue planet, and 70% of it is covered in water.  Our oceans are bearing the brunt of a warming planet. The Global Island Partnership (GLISPA) is working hard with its incredible participants to support the arrival of the traditional Polynesian voyaging canoe -- Hokule‘a, and Hikianalia – her sister canoe, to find their way to a major conference of world leaders focus on islands in Samoa in 1-4 Sept. These courageous navigators will bring the stories and evidence of the current state of the ocean and how it is being impacted by a changing climate and unsustainable practices. They will share the stories of our islands and oceans to inspire leaders to take action to care for our island Earth (or Malama Honua). The Hokule‘a and Hikianalia crew will then carry the message of the conference to 25 countries, 85 communities on its 47,000 nautical mile voyage. They will travel to island and coastal communities globally from Samoa to Manhattan to the tip of South Africa to remind us of our individual and collective responsibilities in living sustainably and inspire us to take urgent action at all levels.
