In the past few months, the Global Island Partnership (GLISPA) has made great bounds in connecting island leaders, catalyzing commitments, and furthering islands conservation and community livelihoods.

From 21-27 October, GLISPA hosted two successful events focused on showcasing bright spots in marine conservation and effective marine protected area management at the 3rd International Marine Protected Areas Congress (IMPAC3) in Marseille, France.

During the Bright Spot Knowledge Exchange, GLISPA facilitated the sharing of experiences and opportunities pertaining to successful MPA management, showcasing various projects and initiatives that have positively impacted ocean health and the protection of marine resources.

“We all know the many threats affecting our oceans, and Seychelles therefore firmly believes these can only be overcome if we come together through collaboration, through commitment, through effective, genuine and durable partnerships and through a shared concern for our oceans,” said H.E. Ronald Jumeau, Seychelles Ambassador for Climate Change and Small Island Developing State Issues and Chair of the GLISPA Steering Committee, during his opening statement at IMPAC3.

GLISPA celebrates the success of IMPAC3, especially as we enter 2014, which has been declared as the International Year of Small Island Developing States (IYSIDS). 2014 provides incredible opportunities for islands to come together and work toward real solutions that tackle the daunting environmental challenges faced today. Our work in 2014 will be made possible through the continued generosity of our donors and partnerships, whose valuable support is critical for island action.
