Iran Floods Update: Your Support in Action

Hygiene kit delivery in Kermanshah, Iran.

Thanks to your generosity, Relief International has responded rapidly to the needs of thousands of vulnerable families affected by the floods in Iran. We were the first international charity on the ground in three provinces, where our teams have distributed nearly 600 hygiene kits to households in need. At a cost of just $26, each kit contains essential non-food items such as soap, toothbrushes, diapers, sanitary pads and water containers.

Relief International teams are also on the ground providing life-saving cash assistance to the most affected people whose homes, schools, farmland and livestock have been washed away. To date, we’ve distributed more than 1,500 cash cards to families affected by the floods. These cash grants of $120 per family allow those facing income shortages to cover immediate, essential needs such as food, water, blankets and cooking equipment.

Needs remain critical – and the situation is deteriorating.

It’s been four months since the initial floods hit the country. Despite considerable national and international efforts, needs remain critical for tens of thousands of families who do not have coping mechanisms. Access to safe water remains a top priority, with hundreds of towns and villages still engulfed with standing water. Lack of access to clean drinking water and low levels of sanitation caused by raw sewage heightens the risk of an outbreak of infectious waterborne disease. We are planning to distribute thousands of water purification tablets, mosquito nets and jerry cans to families in the coming weeks.

We’re here for the long-term.

Recovery for Iranians will be lengthy, but thanks to people like you our work will keep meeting the need where it is greatest. Our teams will continue helping communities rebuild their lives and livelihoods through supporting access to food, clean water, education, shelter and healthcare.
