Welcome to the rainy season! It has been drizzly and overcast in California where most of our stateside team is located. It also continues to rain heavily in Iringa, Tanzania where our on-site project team is located. We are all looking foward to the lushness of spring after the rainfall. In the meantime, the community women of Mboliboli and Iringa have been busy - rain or shine - leading community outreach activities centered around health, biodiversity, and livelihoods. The impact of their reach continues to grow. We are hopeful that with additional funding support this year, we can begin to expand their efforts to additional communities.
While continuing to support the community women, our Tanzanian co-directors, Jesca and Eliza, have been gearing up to lead another ArtScience initiative with Tanzanian teachers and primary school students focused on biodiversity, nature, and health. This initiative has been extremely successful in the past, and the children generate some beautiful art work illustrating the link between biodiversity and healthy communities. We are hoping to create a sister program between the Tanzanian program and several school programs in the U.S. to create a cross-cultural exchange of art and ideas between the students. We did this last year, and it was nothing short of inspiring.
Finally, we are happy to report that Jesca and Eliza were also invited to attend a workshop last week hosted by Re:wild. This organization recognizes that biodiversity protection and restoration are key to addressing the intersectional threats of climate change, species extinction, and pandemics. While at the workshop, Jesca and Eliza will attend a training sessions on primate conservation strategies, grant writing, and program management among other topics. We are looking forward to hearing all about it!
As always, thank you for your continued support of the Women's EARTH Project. We are looking forward to an abundant spring and summer with lots of progress and inspiring stories to share.
Our deepest gratitude,
Kate and the EcoVet Global / FOECOE Teams
