Accompaniment of Essential Services - Update

By Christina Shanafelt | Director of Engagement

The news surrounding the situation in Haiti continues to be concerning and we want to thank everyone for checking in and supporting. Thankfully, our families and team have experienced much less security concerns over the last few months. Compared to April and prior months, when our programming was interrupted at least once a week, we’re seeing this happen less than once a month.

Attendance for our adult programming has been stellar. Our families showed us how they were eager to get back to work. In July, we graduated our largest cohort of Life Skills participants, who will move onto our Small Business Program. Our Small Business Program participants have made strong progress in deploying our investment to improve their income and work towards graduation.

In early August, our students were able to complete their National Exams, officially wrapping up school on the adjusted schedule. Thanks to our partner CPI Card Group, they were able to immediately transition into our Summer Youth Program to have a safe place to learn, play, grow, and a full meal to go along with it.

While our team and our families recognize that the insecurity is not behind us, we’re taking advantage of every peaceful day we have to push progress forward while remaining vigilant and prioritizing safety.

We’re hopeful that the new school year will start on time and we’re working with our family members to ensure they have what they need for their students' first day.

We are also committed to making sure that each student has the resources they need and we look forward to seeing the growth and development of our students throughout this coming school year.

Thank you for your ongoing support for our families.
