Over the past months, Lighthouse Relief has provided crucial administration and employment support sessions for refugees as they rebuild their lives in Greece. Though many people seeking refuge continue to face uncertainty as they navigate asylum procedures, employment barriers, and the challenges of adapting to a new country; opportunities to learn, develop new skills, and receive practical guidance remain an important source of stability and hope.
With your support, Lighthouse Relief has launched our Integration Through Learning programme at the Corinth Community Centre in partnership with Meraki, providing refugees with practical tools and guidance to strengthen their self-determination and expand their access to education and employment opportunities.
Our programme expands on existing support available to community members by offering our services twice-weekly in both English and Arabic, helping participants navigate complex Greek systems and access opportunities with greater confidence. Among our services, our team provides individual employment support, assisting participants with CV preparation, job applications, asylum interview preparation, and understanding the Greek labour market. Additionally, our team provides ongoing administrative support to help refugees navigate bureaucratic procedures, such as obtaining a Greek TaxisNet and social security number and opening a bank account, all essential to accessing services such as housing, healthcare, and employment.
Since launching this project, we have supported 17 people with administration and employment assistance, with many people returning for second or third appointments.
In the Community Garden of Corinth, Lighthouse Relief has started creating opportunities for informal vocational training. For example, through a community project to build a ping pong table. Such training opportunities allow participants to develop practical skills while building confidence and contributing to community spaces. Our team is actively coordinating with partners to welcome new training workshops to the community spaces in which we work.
Although these achievements may appear to be small steps, taken together they represent significant progress towards greater social inclusion and self-determination for people seeking refuge. Every appointment attended, every CV completed, and every new skill developed brings refugees one step closer to rebuilding their lives and achieving greater independence in a new country.
The activities we offer through our Integration Through Learning programme are made possible thanks to the generosity of supporters like you. Every donation helps build essential foundations to long-term social and economic integration for people seeking refuge — from employing dedicated staff and translators to enabling consistent participant access through strong community partnerships.
We are sincerely grateful for your continued support, by following our programmes, raising awareness, advocating, and donating. Together, we can help refugees and asylum seekers access the practical guidance, education, and individual support they need to rebuild safe lives and thrive.
