Project Report | Dec 19, 2018
Enhancing community resilience

By Mary Mutuku | Project Officer

It is my pleasure to present our project progress report for the 4th quarter (October- December 2018). The project; provide safe and clean water for 1500 children and women, is aimed at improving water supply to Mutulani community, in Makueni County, Kenya. During the project period, the community was busy preparing their farms and planting for the October-December rains which the onset delayed up to past Mid November. This was a rare occurrence for the last two or more decades as reported by Phyllis Kilonzo who attributes that to climate change effects and calls upon people to work towards improving the current state through planting trees and harvesting more water. Mutulani project Chair, Mr Joseph Mbithi also reported a count of the trees planted in the area as over 10,000 for this season only and two check sand dams completed through community efforts to continue protecting Kyanduu Stream, their only main source of water to date. The PEN Executive Director and Project Officer visited the Minister for Water for Makueni County Government to check on the progress towards equipping the Mutulani drilled Borehole. The Minister, Hon Bob Kisyula, reported that plans are underway to equip all boreholes within the County. He assured that Mutulani is among the prioritized boreholes to be completed. PEN, Mutulani Community and Mutulani schools appreciate our donors both local and international for this selflessness in supporting this noble cause. We are also introducing our new project: Giving Children a chance to learn and grow.
