Final Project Report: Oxygen Pipeline Installation

By Aban Gautam | Chairperson

Project Overview

The Oxygen Pipeline Installation Project at Siddhasthali Rural Community Hospital aimed to provide oxygen delivery by installing a centralized bedside oxygen pipeline. This was envisioned as a sustainable solution to improve patient care, reduce reliance on oxygen cylinders, lower operational costs, and strengthen the hospital’s capacity to handle emergencies.

Achievements and Progress

Despite not meeting the full fundraising goal, this project made meaningful progress that has already had an impact on patient care.

Total Goal: $12,000

Funds Raised: $272

Donors: 4

Duration: 11 months

With the limited funds raised, we were unable to complete the pipeline installation. However, we redirected the funds responsibly to meet the most urgent need:

Purchased Oxygen Concentrators: These have been vital in providing life-saving oxygen to patients, particularly those with moderate respiratory needs.

Challenges Faced

  • Fundraising shortfall: The lack of sufficient funds prevented the procurement of pipeline equipment and installation.

  • Resource limitations: As a rural, non-profit hospital with no regular government funding, our capacity to match donor requirements was constrained.

  • High demand for high-flow oxygen: While oxygen concentrators are useful, they are insufficient for patients requiring high-flow oxygen or intensive care support.

Unmet Objective

The centralized oxygen pipeline, which would allow continuous, bedside oxygen delivery, remains uninstalled. This infrastructure is critical to:

  • Treating patients requiring continuous oxygen including high-flow oxygen.

  • Reducing manual labor and turnaround times for emergency care.

  • Ensuring greater patient safety and operational efficiency.

Lessons Learned

  • Early acquisition of partial-use equipment (like concentrators) can still save lives when full project funding is not available.

  • Transparent communication with donors and stakeholders maintains trust, even when goals aren’t fully achieved.

  • Future fundraising efforts must target broader audiences, include matching donor appeals, and explore institutional partnerships.

What Comes Next?

While this specific project is now closed, the need for a permanent oxygen pipeline system remains. We will continue to seek funding through new channels and aim to integrate this infrastructure into future development phases of the hospital.

Gratitude

We are truly thankful to the donors who supported this effort. Your contribution has directly helped patients breathe more easily in a resource-limited setting. Every life supported by the oxygen concentrators purchased is a testament to your generosity.
