Go Sisters is a Girls Empowerment through Sport programme run by EduSport Foundation in Zambia. In preparation for this year’s annual Go Sisters Sports festival, 32 female youth peer leaders were trained in an intensive workshop from the 28th of April through to 1st may in one of the EduSport targeted communities of Lusaka called Chawama. These are the girls that will go round training many others in the surrounding communities as they prepare themselves for the Go Sisters tournament scheduled for September, 2007 in Lusaka.
FIELDS OF TRAINING 1. Leadership- Under leadership, participants were imparted with knowledge on the roles of a peer leader, qualities of a leader, leadership styles, grooming leaders and conducting movement games. 2. Event management-Participants were introduced to how EduSport and Go Sisters events look, planning and organising events, promoting events, fundraising, and proposal writing. This is considered to be a very necessary element under our training as a way of maintaining the spirit of EduSport in our events. 3. 1st AID- In partnership with the Red Cross Society, basic knowledge on 1st AID was given to participants which is very cardinal in organising community Sports. 4. OUTCOMES/RESULTS
With the Knowledge these participants got from the workshop, girls have started training their friends in different communities as they prepare for this year’s big event. Besides these girls have offered themselves to give physical education activities in schools that are interested in our programmes especially community schools. Mostly our movement games shall be used in these weekly two hour sports sessions(movement games are simple games designed to teach while playing-they carry life serving messages on one side with a sport skill on the other side).
CENTRAL ACTION TEAM FC After this training, girls felt it necessary to form a main girl’s team which all girls will be looking up to. This team was formed and entered in the Zambia Women Soccer league. Currently, girls that act as role models in their various committees are on this team.
