Money Raised for Reforestation

A successful fund-raiser was held for La Reserva Forest Foundation on Sunday, April 11th at the Rock River Lodge in Rio Piedras over-looking Lake Arenal. The event was dedicated to raising funds to reforest a 1.5 hectare parcel of pasture land which sits between the large Tenorio Protected Zone and a remnant of privately owned primary forest. Reforesting the pasture between these two forests will allow greater mobility of species, enhancing their survival rate, as well as increasing carbon-dioxide absorption and oxygen production in this area.

Over 120 guests were at the event to enjoy dinner, live music, and an auction of pieces donated by local artists. In total just over $2,000 was raised, enough to plant 1500 trees and maintain them for the next two years until they are large enough to out-compete the grasses in the field. Thanks go to all who participated in this successful event. More information about La Reserva and their work in reforestation can be found at http//:lrff.org or check out our other projects posted at Global Giving.

We will be planting this corridor the beginning of June when the rains begin in earnest. Our friends at Global Giving have agreed to let us leave this project on their site so that all of you who helped fund this project can watch the work in progress and the forest grow over the next two years.
