Secure Futures Training For Coaches

By Nancy Waweru | Principle

Training of Trainer's Workshop
Training of Trainer's Workshop

The month of January witnessed a total of 15 female coaches  involved in the 3 days training of trainers’ course for Secure Future’s project whose focus is to engage pregnant adolescent girls and young mothers from Nairobi slums without safe or secure places to live in a holistic sport-based programme. The project which  utilizes  girl-centred approaches, has been designed and it’s implementing  activities in safe sports spaces to increase the social support, life skills and livelihoods opportunities needed for Secure Futures participants.

Conducted at VAP’s Youth Empowerment Hub,the primary aim of the training was to enhance safe, supportive, and survivor-cantered spaces within the Secure Futures program. Throughout the training, the coaches explored the psychological and social impacts of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), focusing on best practices for effectively managing psychosocial issues and addressing SGBV challenges within the program.

In addition, Coaches participated in an orientation of the Jidhamini series. This structured psycho-educational series is designed to strengthen participants’ self-knowledge, self-worth, rebuild confidence, and encourage making healthy choices. The 3 days trainings wrapped up with a great emphasize on the importance of reinforcing monitoring and evaluation of interventions. A significant part of our discussions centered around clearly defining the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) referral system, protocols, and documentation. This clarity is vital for our Coaches to ensure smooth implementation of the project within communities
