The aim of this clean cookstove project is to replace use of charcoal and open fire cooking methods with cleaner burning and safer stoves for communities living on less than $1.25 a day in Liberia.
Phase one of the project is to purchase materials from donors like you through GlobalGiving to produce a prototype rocket stove for testing on the market in Liberia. Currently, we are about to begin building the model in February 2016 with volunteer support from a mechanical engineer using a welding machine, torch kit and a welding helmet. Once produced, it would go through a serious of tests to measure various parameters of efficiency.
We are just at the initial stages of both our fundraising and design. Look out for more progress report on this new social enterprise endeavor to improve the health conditiions of people who rely on dirtier and less healthy means of cooking food that according to the United Nations shortens their life span by 6.6 years because of household air pollution. In addition, clean cookstoves will help reduce the deforestation of Liberia's remaining rainforest and lessen the burden of collecting firewood for women and children.
With additional funding support from donors like you, Village Improvement Project, Inc. will have improved cookstoves in the homes of some Liberian families in 2016.
