In rural Uganda, women in Kitoba, Hoima face long, hazardous journeys for firewood, risking their safety and health, while cooking with inefficient 3-stone stoves that pollute and deplete forests. With 94% of households using open fires, adopting cleaner, efficient cookstoves like Rocket Lorena can reduce health risks, environmental damage, and empower women economically.
We organised a 3 days training on making Rocket Lorena Improved Cookstove that took place on 6th, 7th and 8th August 2025 in Bulyango-Kitoba subcounty. This training was organised with support from International Development Innovation Network (IDIN). We trained 10 women from 5 groups from 5 villages of Bujwahya, Kyakataba, Kikonoka, Bulyango and Kiraira.
The training focused on mindset change and the theory behind improved cookstoves on day one, practically learning how to make Rocket Lorena improved cookstove on day 2 and women replicating the skills learnt on day 2.
The training was a step toward healthier communities, sustainable ecosystems, and improved livelihoods.
Together, we're making meaningful strides towards empowering women with sustainable, efficient cooking solutions. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to transform lives through innovative and eco-friendly technologies.
