Growing Strength and Spirit of Our Young Environmental Ambassador Zulu Dancers

By Janet Cuthbertson | Project Leader

New Faux Fur again
New Faux Fur again

 Dear Friends and Supporters,

We are thrilled to share the latest progress of our extraordinary young Zulu environmental dancers. Their journey continues to inspire resilience, cultural pride, and community spirit.

It was a lovely occasion when we arrived with their brand-new faux fur for their arm, chest, and leg bands. Each band around their arms and legs makes them feel deeply about their heritage, even from a very young age. The next time we see them, their new regalia will be so proudly worn!

We also helped with the purchase of new drums, as the old ones were tattered and used to the point where the drum skin was worn through. Now with the new drums, their rehearsals have taken on a powerful new energy - deep, resonant beats echo through the area, uniting the dancers in rhythm and their young bodies' natural talent.

Each week, we continue to supply nourishing meals and little treats. They do not buy things like cordial drinks and/or sweets, as any tips earned go to their mothers to help care for the family. So we like to spoil them a little, adding sweets, cake and cordial drinks to their nourishing fare.

Many dancers walk miles to reach the dance site. To ease this burden, whenever possible, we assist with lifts home, ensuring they return safely after long rehearsals. This support makes participation more accessible and shows them that their dedication is valued.

Under the guidance of Coach Wozie, the group flourishes. His teaching style—breaking complex movements into manageable sets—makes learning joyful and achievable. With patience, encouragement, and praise, he draws out their natural talent, instilling confidence and discipline.

We were pleased to welcome more young dancers into the beginners group. They are so talented and more than cute!  As they grow, the group thrives and takes Zulu dance forward to future generations.

Your generosity makes all of this possible. From regalia and drums to food and safe transport, every contribution helps these young dancers flourish as cultural ambassadors and environmental stewards. Together, we are nurturing talent, pride, and community strength. Thank you for caring!
