Wonderful children a year of Zulu dance

By Janet Cuthbertson | Project Leader

Some of the young Zulu Dancers.
Some of the young Zulu Dancers.

During the year, our Young Environmental Zulu Dancers continued to inspire us with their resilience, talent, and joy.
Rain or shine, these dedicated children walk miles to perform in a simple bush clearing near Hluhluwe Park—dancing with heart and grace in traditional regalia that offers little warmth but radiates pride.

This year, we were able to buy new fabric for their bright white faux fur body and leg bands. They look absolutely stunning in their refreshed regalia, which adds even more brilliance to their performances.

Their smiles light up every visit, and the gratitude they show for the food, drinks, and occasional treats we bring is deeply humbling.

We still uphold our dream to build them a shelter, but unfortunately, we were unable to find sufficient support to begin construction this year. The planned shelter will not only provide protection from the elements but also serve as a classroom for conservation lessons and cultural connection.

As year-end approaches, we have planned a lovely party for them. These children are so deserving of all we can do to enrich their lives. They give everything to their performances and certainly deserve to be rewarded.

We know how important it is for them to bring joy and extra income to their families through the support they receive from visitors who care enough to tip them outside Hluhluwe Park. Yet, when interviewed, Sibonga Dalami explained why he dances: “Dancing is my passion and I love what I do.”

These are not just any children—they are supremely talented. With your support, we are preparing for next year’s Talent Africa event, aiming once again to help these remarkable young stars shine as the best of the best in South Africa!

All the children and Suni-Ridge Team would like to thank each and every one of our supporters, that  helped us help these amazing young environmental Zulu dancers!

The children and the Suni-Ridge Team wish you all a wonderful Christmas and joyful New Year.
