Report on One toilet for one poor family in Rwanda
By Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana | Project Leader
![]()
As an initial stage we have started to build 2 toilets for the most vulnerable people:
We are planning to build 20 toilets in Rulindo District. The project area is located in rural (hard to reach) area of the district. It is very difficult to reach there by walking. There are no transportation facilities due to hills and no roads. The people are at high risk to use or to go to open field and in bushes to defecate. However, due to awareness of the government of Rwanda, People are encouraged to build their own toilets however, very poor people are unable to have means to build their own toilets. Therefore, we have planned to build 20 toilets in the in the Rulindo district for the poorest people. And with the local fundraising we have started to build two toilets for the very poor people who urgently need a toilet.
This action will also promote sanitation and hygiene in the local area. It would be wonderful to commence the process of building toilets and reforms as it is a new time period of executives. The work will also be very effective and long lasting as the start of new governmental bodies within the area has provided with enthusiastic personnel within the local governmental bodies in the village. Therefore, as we will receive funds for help we could speed up the plan to build the 20 toilets for the poorest people, in Rulindo district, Northern Province, Rwanda.
One last thing—sharing our project with your friends and family helps us spread the word about our work and continue to grow our community of supporters like you. If you’re willing to share the story of our work with your network, we’d be incredibly grateful.
Kind regards
RWAYDAVO president
