Meet Pashupati. His kids love when he reads aloud

By Niranjan Narsing Khatri | Executive Director

We're proud to have Pashupati's support.
We're proud to have Pashupati's support.

During our teacher training sessions over the past few years, we’ve met some special people who are truly dedicated to their students and open to new ideas.

We’d like to introduce you to an experienced educator, Pashupati, who had never read aloud to students or even his own children. But we asked him to give it a try when he came to our training session. The results have been powerful.

A former teacher, Pashupati is now an assistant resource person for the local government in Shivapuri Rural Municipality, Nuwakot district. He visits each school in his municipality at least once a month. He has become a favorite of the children, known for teaching in a ‘fun’ way using songs and role play.

But he did not see the value in reading aloud, even with his own children. When they asked him to read to them, he told them to do homework or practice their handwriting instead. The training has changed his mind, however.

“Ever since participating in the training, I have been reading aloud to my son and daughter every evening. What I witnessed within two months is their increased attention and memory span. They have been re-telling the stories to their friends at school.”

“Both my kids are very restless and it shows when I have to help them with homework. But they are calm and patient when I read aloud to them. Now, during my regular visits to schools, I spend time with students reading aloud to them.”

Thank you for your support

Your donation helps us deliver new kinds of learning activities and experiences, like beekeeping and reading aloud, to children in rural Nepal. We’re deeply grateful to all of you.

As a donor, you can feel confident that your support is making a real, positive impact for children in remote areas of the Kathmandu Valley. Please continue your support today.
