The U.S. Presidential Delegation traveled to Bogotá, Colombia to attend the Inauguration of His Excellency Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego as President of the Republic of Colombia, on August 7, 2022.
The Honorable Samantha Power, Administrator for the United States Agency for International Development, led the delegation, and was accompanied by The Honorable Gregory Meeks, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee (staffed by Ms. Zakiya Carr Johnson, ICAP ’08, Professional Congressional Staff Member for the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Lead on Western Hemisphere Affairs), The Honorable Juan Gonzalez, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Western Hemisphere Affairs, National Security Council, ICAP’07, and Ms. Desirée Cormier Smith, Special Representative for Racial Equity and Justice, U.S. Department of State, ICAP ‘15.
ICAP Fellows were in attendance to witness the historic moment when Gustavo Petrowas sworn in as Colombia's president with the country's first Black vice president, Francia Márquez.
