ICAP Congratulates Nima Patel Edwards, President of ICAPFA on Her Election As Life Member with CFR

The International Career Advancement Program Fellows Association (ICAPFA) congratulates Ms. Nima Patel Edwards, President of the ICAPFA, on her election to the Life Membership with the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR)! CFR is an independent nonpartisan think tank and publisher that promotes understanding of international relations and foreign policy.

Nima Patel Edwards is currently a Director in KPMG's ESG & Climate Advisory (Environment, Social, Governance) where she focuses on ESG strategy, physical climate risk, and due diligence. She works with global clients to assess their ESG maturity and determine their strategy and deliver solutions on these issues. Nima has expertise on national security, international development, and climate issues and worked on complex and sometimes thorny issues at the U.S. GAO, and with considerable results; her work on flood and climate risk resulted in significant legislative changes and recognition in a GAO Honor Award for Client Services and her work on nuclear smuggling resulted in an overhaul of the nation’s efforts to prevent nuclear materials from entering the country. Early in her career, Nima worked for with the post-genocide Rwandan government and conducted evaluations of children’s health in southern Sudan for UNICEF Operation Lifeline Sudan. She worked in the Balkans for Catholic Relief Services where she led a UNHCR pilot that was later replicated, to reintegrate Serb and Croat communities after the war.

Nima is the President of the ICAP Fellows Association. In 2015, the ICAP program was identified by the Economist as one of the top 50 Ethnic Diversity Networks globally and has been named by both in the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate as an important and successful U.S. diversity leadership program. She is transforming the organization to be a change agent at the intersection of foreign affairs and diversity, equity, and inclusion. While doing so, she has become a voice on these issues, successfully engaging with think tanks, academic institutions, and notable foreign affairs organizations on partnerships nationwide. Nima is a speaker on flood and climate risk and DEI; she is a diversity facilitator, an adult trainer, has a PMP certification, and is as an arbitrator for the DC Bar Attorney- Client Arbitration Committee, serving on its board. Nima has earned her MIA from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, her BA from the University of Pittsburgh in Economics and is a Life Member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

ICAP Congratulates Travis L. Adkins, President and CEO of the U.S. African Development Foundation

On November 22, 2021, Travis L. Adkins, currently the Deputy Assistant Administrator in the Africa Bureau of the U.S. Agency for International Development, was selected as the new President and CEO of the U.S. African Development Foundation (USADF), a post which he will assume in January 2022.

In terms of his vision for USADF, Mr. Adkins stated "in a moment where localized development, respect for African agency, and high-level engagement between the U.S. and African nations comes into focus, USADF is well placed to lead."

During his tenure at USAID, Mr. Adkins was responsible for the Sudan and South Sudan portfolio, as well as several presidential initiatives. He also serves as a Lecturer of African and Security Studies at the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. Previously, he taught in the Georgetown Prison Scholars Program, as part of the university’s Prisons & Justice Initiative. As an international development leader, he has two decades of experience working in governance, civil society and refugee and migration affairs in over 50 nations throughout Africa and the Middle East. This includes serving as Staff Director of the House Subcommittee on Africa, working with leading international NGOs and think tanks, as well as within several branches of the United Nations system.

He is an alumnus of the International Affairs Fellowship at the Council on Foreign Relations, and a recipient of academic appointments from Carnegie Mellon and New York Universities.

Mr. Adkins has served in numerous international election observation missions in Africa and the Middle East with the National Democratic Institute, has been a regular contributor to national and international media outlets on African affairs, and is a Life Member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is also a graduate of Fisk University, one of our nation's illustrious Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and a member of the ICAP Class of 2007.

The ICAP Fellows Association congratulates our very own, Mr. Adkins, on his new role as President and CEO of USADF.
