Dear Friends,
English opens worlds of opportunity. Worldwide, 56% of Internet content and 87% of scientific publications are in English. In Mexico, seven out of ten expanding companies seek English-speaking employees and Mexican professionals who speak English command a 28% higher salary. Yet, this year, Mexico was ranked 43rd of 72 countries in English proficiency, below Perú, Ecuador, and Vietnam.
Your donation is helping to change that. With your support, IAPE has now directly trained 2,170 English teachers from throughout Mexico in the Rassias Method®, a proven, innovative approach to language learning that eliminates students’ inhibitions and fear of making mistakes, and creates and maintains an enjoyable learning environment where students speak to learn. These teachers have directly reached over 1.7 million students – teachers like Videncio Diego Cruz who is just one of 80 teachers who has been trained in our IAPE Inspiring English Teachers courses since October, 2016:
My name is Videncio, I am from Hidalgo, I work in a high school in Xochiatipan, where most of my students live in bad conditions, they live far away from the school, so they need to walk for about two or more hours to arrive on time at class. Their parents work in the cornfield, some of them work as bricklayers, carpenters and mechanics. Their parents usually drink aguardiente (a typical alcoholic drink from la Huasteca) and this causes serious problems with their children’s education. Students sometimes stop studying and leave home and go to the biggest cities to start working. The internet is also very limited and they have problems completing their homework or projects, but they keep studying because they want to improve this situation and have better living conditions so they are very interesting in learning another language and we are working to reach their goals.
I used to be a traditional and quiet teacher, but now I am more dynamic and my students are very interested in the English class. They are more active and they are learning to speak it! Students have told me that they like and enjoy the Rassias® techniques I have learned through IAPE. I am very happy because I have seen changes in the attitude to encourage my students to improve the communication.
Thank you so much because I have gotten great tools to improve and develop true skills in my students.
Together we can change minds and attitudes!
With your help, we are making a difference, one teacher and one child at a time!
Sincerely,
Jim Citron Kelly Maurice
