Today was a bittersweet day as we handed out the last of the supplies that we had over to a community near the Bay County Government building.
My team came with close to 1.5 tons of food and blankets on Monday (I rejoined after 36 hours off) and it was all given out to communities in need, in that timeframe that we chose to drive through, set up tent stations and/ or knock door-to-door.
*Occassionally we also stopped to clear downed trees, trash and debris from yards, schools and even another cemetery.
To hear the stories from so many on how they hope they can pull something together for the upcoming holidays for their children (in the way of securing a weather proof apartment or home, provide good food and possibly a gift) was a bit overwhelming, and I have to admit, it even made me go back to the car and take a breather. To see our fellow human beings suffering really takes a toll: even on our small team of veterans.
We thank God that we've been able to do as much as we could so far, but we really want to do more. We are hoping to raise enough money to buy supplies that we can distribute throughout the holidays and cooler months as people continue to rebound. Their recovery will take months, if not years to fully happen.
That is why we are asking people to continure to give through any donation amount.
Every dollar helps a family right here in North Florida get something that many of us take for granted every day: food, clean water, a blanket, quick access to hygiene and the list goes on.
We also thank God for those who've given to our cause here in the past few weeks and just want you to know that we couldn't have done it without you. You really are angels and we thank you.
Please share our story with your places of work, your community leaders, churches and organizations.
Thank you all and we hope your week is going well, wherever you are!
