Hurricane Dorian Rescue & Relief

Good afternoon.

The state of Abaco and Freeport remain the same.

There is the continual look of desparation in the eyes of people, the smell of rotten wood, molding structures from where sea water sat stagnate and even the smell of dead of animals and other dead beings. There are a lot of people who have colds or are sick who won't admit it because in their minds they need to fight on to rebuild or look after children, elders and others.

In our eyes, and in the eyes of many citizens on the island, the only thing that has changed drastically as far as conditions is that the water has receded in 99% of areas. This however, has revealed a new coastline as sea levels have now shown a new high and wiped many areas of dry land off of the map aerially and more obviously at ground level where homes or small businesses were. Even yesterday, we were taken to a 2 story brick hotel that was completely obliterated!

Though national news reports show that many have evacuated the main islands to head for lives in other countries (including the U.S.), there are still hundereds of thousands of people (many who evacuated smaller islands to come here to Freeport or Abaco since the storm) who now know a new reality as they awaken to no food, food kitchens (such as soup lines) and aid relief lines (if they can make oit there on foot). The everyday need to search for necessities while at the same time trying to go into their old neighborhoods and salvage what they can is common for many. It really is other-worldly.
