Our team continues working in San Mateo del Mar, Oaxaca.
The ITESO team had been concluded the houses foundation and soil improvement, of the 20 houses they are in charge of. Therefore, they were ready to start the scholarship program for local workers. This program seeks to train local builders and families in earthquake-resistant construction techniques, which will be replicated in their future construction works. This will generate a positive impact on regional architectural health, reducing future disasters.
By the end of August, in these twenty houses, the walls and structures of reinforced concrete will be completed, and thus, the placement of the steel structure that will support the placement of the ceilings can be installed.
The families will decide the kind of roof they want in their houses. Some roofs will have traditional material (palm), and others sheets of recycled materials (ECOLAM).
It is scheduled that in September 2019 the works of the ITESO team can be completed with the placement of the doors, windows, and electrical installations. With this work, we'll add 20 more houses to the program achievements.
We have learned through this process, that in order to deliver adequate and dignified results, it is necessary to follow the community rhythm throughout the de process, to understand their times and needs. Trying to impose non-flexible times and deadlines would generate conflicts that alter the entire process and could be impossible to achieve the goals. This reality has forced us to adjust the work schedules on more than one occasion. However, the works continue, and by the end of September, we hope to deliver the general results of the different processes that we have been working on.
