Christmas in the tropics is always a bit different than we are used to. The pineapples are ripening, the sun is at full blast, and the palm trees start sprouting new leaves. But one thing IS the same- and that is a giant Christmas meal!
Every year House of Hope hosts a large Christmas lunch for all the kids in the program. They eat beef, peanut sauce, beans, cabbage, matooke (mashed plantains), posho (solidified grits), rice, fresh fruits, and each have a soda. Before dinner they have Christmas prayers and sing Christmas songs.
Christmas is a time of year that brings everyone together. While House of Hope has children from both Christian and Muslim backgrounds, Ugandans realize that both religions are worshiping the same God- that they just worship diferently.
Through the work of House of Hope and from contributions from donors like you, this Christmas meal is possible, and the hopeless are hopeful.
