Asharan Orphanage Report 2024

The Journey of Raju: Reuniting with His Biological Family Amidst a Heartbreaking Discovery

Raju (name changed), a 5-year-old boy, faced a heartbreaking and confusing situation when he learned that the people he had been calling Mom and Dad were not his biological parents. The sudden appearance of his biological mother, who came to claim him, turned his world upside down.

Raju shared that he had been living with his parents in Sonapur Hat, a city in West Bengal. His father sold fish, and his mother was a homemaker. He was studying in the first grade there. A few days before this incident, Raju had traveled to Delhi with the people he knew as his parents to visit an aunt.

One day, a woman showed up at the aunt’s house, shouting that she wanted her son back. A confrontation ensued, and the police were called. They took both the couple Raju had been living with and the woman to the police station, while Raju was brought to Asharan Orphanage for temporary care.

According to Raju's biological mother, during the COVID-19 pandemic, she found herself unable to care for her children after her husband abandoned her. A neighbor suggested she temporarily send Raju to her brother’s family to ensure his survival, promising that she could reclaim him whenever she wanted. However, when her attempts to bring him back were denied, she reported the matter to the police. After several counseling sessions at Asharan Orphanage, Raju was eventually reunited with his biological mother, who had been longing to be with her son once more.

Update on Celebrations!

During the reporting period, the children at Asharan Orphanage enjoyed several special celebrations:

  • Independence Day: The children dressed up as freedom fighters and performed a small play to honor the spirit of the day.
  • Raksha Bandhan: The festival was marked with the children tying rakhis (bracelets) on each other’s wrists, celebrating the bond of protection and love.
  • Birthdays: Six children celebrated their birthdays. A kind friend of Asharan baked cakes customized to each child’s favorite colors and flavors, while another friend decorated the space with vibrant balloons, making the day even more joyful.
  • New Admissions: Asharan welcomed four infants during this period. Each was provided with medical care and round-the-clock monitoring. While some of the children experienced fevers, they have since recovered. One underweight and malnourished baby, who developed chest congestion, has been admitted to the hospital for further care.

Thank You to Our Donors:

None of this would be possible without the generous support of our donors. Your contributions have enabled us to care for these children, provide them with the medical attention they need, and create moments of joy through special celebrations. We are deeply grateful for your ongoing commitment to the children of Asharan.

Support needed : We need your continued support to continue this very valuable work for the orphans. Please pass the word around and request generous friends/companies/donors to consider sending ther year ending donations for the cause of orphan children.

With gratitude
