The Pandemic has taken an ugly turn by the 2nd week of April 2021, after the 2nd wave hit Delhi. Most of the staff along with their family members and 4 children of Asharan got infected by the COVID 19. The infection became fatal for one of our care staff Santhi Rose when there was a severe shortage of hospital beds and oxygen supply in Delhi. We lost Santhi on May 7th. There was fear, grief, and uncertainty in the heart of everyone.
The other staffs are in the recovery stage now. Eight months old baby who was hospitalized due to COVID 19 is improving. He is back at home after two weeks of hospitalization. The other 3 kids were under home care. They have completed their quarantine period and are back with other children happy and healthy.
Those who were not infected were the nurse, one caregiver, the cleaner, a temporary caregiver whom we hired, and the night guard. They continuously worked in the absence of the other staff to take care of the children. We also had to hire two more temporary paramedical staff to be with the baby in the COVID assigned hospital. All of them worked wholeheartedly so that the children did not lack anything.
We are very grateful to all those who shared our pain; constantly being in touch with us to support us emotionally, all those who acted promptly to help us with oxygen concentrators, all those who provided us with PPE kits and food items. Our regular supporters never stopped supporting us despite their own problems. Few of our well-wishers have also lost their dear ones but also they cared for the orphans in their pain.
It was very painful when many of the grieving families called Asharan to provide meals for the kids in remembrance of their dear ones. The 2nd wave of the pandemic has put people all over Delhi, with unimaginable suffering.
