Hope for Pearl

Thank you for your attention and support to the Retrieve the Pearl Program. This letter reports our project progress from March to June 2026.

Fundraising Status

As of June 23, 2026, a total of 16,901 US dollars has been raised through the GlobalGiving platform.

Project Implementation

In early March, our project team disbursed living subsidies for the second semester of the 2025–2026 academic year to all enrolled Pearl Students in junior and senior high schools. The total disbursement exceeded 24.46 million RMB, supporting more than 19,000 Pearl Students. Among them are 4 Grade 10 Pearl Students of the 2025 cohort sponsored via GlobalGiving, each receiving a semester subsidy of 1,250 RMB.

Regarding new school recruitment and enrollment expansion for 2026: we launched nationwide recruitment of partner schools in March. We received cooperation intentions from 125 junior and senior high schools, conducted online interviews and communications with 70 schools, and shortlisted over 40 schools for on-site inspections. From late March to late April, foundation staff traveled to county-level schools across China for field visits to verify school operating conditions and the number of local disadvantaged students. A total of 24 new partner schools were confirmed, which will launch brand-new Pearl Classes in autumn 2026, expecting to support over 700 additional Pearl Students.

From April to May, we communicated with more than 100 existing partner schools to confirm and sign cooperation agreements. Ultimately, the 2026 cohort of the Retrieve the Pearl Program covers 158 partner schools, planning to support 6,315 Pearl Students (including over 700 newly added students from new schools). We will prioritize investment in ten regions: Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Guangxi, Hunan, Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai and Xinjiang. Students from these regions account for 84.95% of all planned 2026 beneficiaries, ensuring resources reach counties with the greatest need.

In June, more than 5,700 Pearl Students of the 2023 cohort took the National College Entrance Examination (Gaokao). We wish all these students outstanding exam results. We will share their admission success stories with you later.
