Since you last heard from us, the HOPE Centre has been busy continuing to fight diabetes and hypertension in South Africa. Through quality health care, education and patient support programs, the HOPE Centre supports the overall wellbeing of their patients and improves their ability to live a healthy life. Recently our patient, Mr. Tshuma Kama, shared his feelings with us:
“The difference I notice between the HOPE Centre and other health facilities is that Project HOPE staff care for people. There are no long queues that you find at other clinics. They don’t just give medication but they educate patients as well…”
To-date, the HOPE Centre has screened more than 9,500 members of the Zandspruit community for diabetes & hypertension, trained more than 100 community health workers on health promotion and screenings and offers six patient support programs, including a recently added nutrition program.
In addition to its regular services, the HOPE Centre works hard to find innovative ways to engage the community on NCD prevention, diagnosis and treatment. On November 15th, the HOPE Centre hosted an event in honor of World Diabetes Day with the generous support of Eli Lilly & Company, donors like you, and local partners. More than 300 Zandspruit residents participated in the event and treatment was initiated for 12 new patients with diabetes and/or hypertension. The event offered screenings, eye exams, dental exams and enrollment the Centre’s patient support and prevention programs in addition to fun activities for kids, group exercise sessions and traditional dance performances. Thank you for your support and helping to make this event a success!
