Dear Donor,
I hope this message finds you well.
On behalf of Asante Aid for Children and Schools in Africa, I am pleased to share with you our latest Homes of Hopes report. This initiative was born out of an urgent need in Kilifi County, where over 1,000 families live in unsafe conditions, many affected by disability and poverty.
Together with our partners, including the Shelter Equity Team, we have already built 5 fully equipped homes, each with solar lighting, toilet and bathroom facilities, a community borehole powered by solar pumps, and bicycles for transport. These homes have transformed the lives of more than 300 people, while the wider Manarani community now enjoys free access to clean water.
This is just the beginning. With your support, we can scale this impact:
We invite you to read the detailed report below and consider joining us in this cause. Together, we can ensure that every family in Kilifi has a safe, dignified place to call home.
With gratitude and hope,
Nicholas O. Ondiek

HOMES OF HOPES Report
Executive Summary
Kilifi County is experiencing a severe housing crisis, with thousands of families living in unsafe shanty structures that expose children to harsh weather, disease, and displacement. As one of Kenya’s poorest regions, with a poverty rate of 49.2%, households face compounded challenges, including a lack of clean water, inadequate sanitation, and insecure shelter. These conditions leave families highly vulnerable to climate shocks and deepen cycles of extreme poverty.
The Homes of Hopes initiative seeks to address this crisis by providing safe, sustainable housing solutions integrated with clean water access, sanitation facilities, solar energy, and mobility support. By combining shelter with essential services, the program aims to restore dignity, improve health outcomes, and build resilience for vulnerable families across Kilifi County.
Key Highlights
1. Background
In late July 2025, together with our partners, we conducted a fact-finding mission across Kilifi County. During several stopovers, we witnessed the magnitude of need among families living in dire conditions, many of whom had suffered amputations from snake bites and lacked safe shelter. The urgency was overwhelming, with more than 1,000 families identified as requiring immediate housing support.
2. Partnership & Action
With the support of the Shelter Equity Team, we launched the Homes of Hopes initiative in August 2025. By November 2025, we commissioned 5 fully equipped homes, each designed to restore dignity and provide sustainable living conditions.
Each home includes:
3. Impact Achieved
