We’re delighted to share with you how our work with rural communities in the Chinantla region of Oaxaca is evolving and reaching new heights.
While our project began with a focus on sustainable livelihoods—specifically through home gardens and fuel-efficient stoves—your support has enabled us to achieve concrete goals that go beyond the household level. We’re now seeing the tangible results of our broader mission: to improve the environment and conserve biodiversity alongside the families who call this land home.
We’re proud to report that this initiative has entered a new stage, one where we are simultaneously promoting food sovereignty and actively restoring degraded ecosystems.
The results include:
Forest Protection: The community brigades we supported carried out 18 bimonthly monitoring missions (totaling 36 effective field days) to safeguard our forests from critical threats such as illegal logging and forest fires.
Restoration & Reforestation: Two community nurseries have successfully produced 80,000 plants. This incredible capacity has already enabled the reforestation of 20 hectares of degraded land, breathing new life into the landscape.
Looking ahead to next year, we have ambitious plans. We will launch extensive reforestation actions utilizing the plants we have produced in the nurseries, while continuing our essential training programs to strengthen community capacity.
