Work is underway to reopen the primary school at Hope for Children Center. New floors are being poured, walls painted, steps repaired, and teachers are being hired. Since we had to close the school a few years ago, the fees for children to attend local public schools have nearly bankrupted our ministry to the orphans. Last year fees were $18,000, and the education was not of the quality our children need to become well educated. It is also very dangerous for our primary students to walk both to and from the various schools in the dark. Their school day is from 6 a.m, to 8 p.m. In the rainy season, both they and their school materials get soaking wet.
We need help to purchase text books, desks and school supplies! Children from the community will also be able to attend our school, and the fees they pay will help cover the teacher's salaries. This year grades 1 thru 8 will each have their own classroom. By next year, we hope to construct a small pre-primary school for those children under the age of 6. For now, they will occupy one of the storage rooms at the school, which has 8 classrooms.
We are very excited and hope you will join with making it possible for our kids to get a quality education on site. Being schooled at Hope Center assures increased safety, extra time for play and studies, and having some control over the materials are children are exposed to.
