The year 2014 has been a stellar year for our children. Four of our high school graduates have finished their college degrees. One has received an MBA, another has become an engineer, the third a biologist, and the fourth, a primary school teacher and soccer coach. We are so proud of these orphans, and excited that they will take their places in Kenyan society to help make their country a better place. In November, 16 more of our kids are graduating from high school. Some will move on to University (if donors can be found), and the others will join the community with life skills that will benefit all. As they move on, we will be bringing other orphans in to take their places, giving them a chance at a future. We recently received a donation to purchase 8 beds from a youth mission group. 17 orphans who have been on our waiting list will occupy these beds, ages 3 to 13. We are so excited to have these little ones join our family.
Of course, with new children come new challanges. Many need medical attention and special diets. They will need to be completely outfitted with clothing, shoes, and school uniforms. Then there are school fees. Can you imagine adding 17 children to your family not knowing where the funds to keep them will come from? That is where our faith comes in! We have walked a tight rope before, and know how to budget to save as many orphans as possible. We are praying for your help.
In an effort to hold down costs, we merged Good Samaritan Lwanda home into our Hope Center location. The children adjusted well and are no longer having to run the mile to play with each other. We are hoping to cut some staff and hold down other costs by not duplicating services. This is our third consolidation, and although we feared tribal issues, not a single one has occurred. We believe this is due to the education the children are receiving.
