Holiday dinner for 300 children with cancer

Five years ago we met Ricardo, a young man who could no longer walk because a brain tumor had deprived him of living his youth as every teenager wishes. He came from the Sótero del Río Hospital to our Rehabilitation Center to stand up and show us that despite all the adversities, with determination, perseverance and a comprehensive support network, it is possible to face the disease with dignity and have a real chance of recovery.

Ricardo is a young man who lives with his parents (older adults) in the Puente Alto district, cheerful, with a big heart and many dreams to fulfill. At 14 years of age, he was a promising talent in cadet football - at the time he played for Audax Italiano - when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor, a medulloblastoma. He had to be operated on urgently at the Sótero del Río Hospital, after which he remained in an induced coma for a month and a half. Ricardo, or "Richi" as his friends call him, stopped walking and could no longer dress by himself, he had completely lost his autonomy. His mother helped him with everything. For that reason, he was referred to the Fundación Nuestro Hijos Oncology Rehabilitation Center.

Walking again

He started a long journey here to regain the fullness of his abilities, and at 7 months, he was able to walk again. He has been rehabilitating in our Center for 5 years now, striving day by day, therapy after therapy, and the fruits of this comprehensive work are already visible. Now 19-year-old "Richi" has just finished his high school studies and hopes to get a scholarship to study a professional technical career.
