Through the generous support of our donors and partners, Her Innovation Cameroon (HIC) successfully advanced two major phases in this initiative aimed at closing the digital divide and strengthening educational access in our community: the launch of the HIC Public Library in Buea and the execution of a Four-Week Basic Computer Training Course for Kids as a pre run of the centre.
Together, these programs have established a safe, resource-rich learning environment for local youth while equipping young children with foundational technological skills needed for the modern digital economy.
Program Highlights & Key Achievements1. Establishment of the HIC Public Library (Buea)
Infrastructure & Space: Successfully opened a public library facility in Buea designed to serve students, young scholars, and aspiring academics.
Resource Access: Provided a secure, quiet, and well-resourced hub that offers learning materials, research space, and literacy support to local community members.
Community Impact: Fostered a culture of reading and early childhood literacy, giving children and youth an accessible sanctuary for academic excellence and study.
2. Four-Week Basic Computer Training Course for Kids
Hands-On Digital Skills: Introduced children to fundamental hardware components, typing, computer navigation, and digital tools through interactive training.
Interactive Learning: Integrated multimedia educational documentaries covering the history of computing to inspire curiosity in STEM fields.
Practical Experience: Provided young learners with direct access to hardware, demystifying technology and building confidence in basic computer operation
Building on the momentum of the library launch and computer bootcamp, HIC is expanding its grassroots educational framework. Future plans include expanding software and coding modules for young learners especially girls from rural areas, integrating PeaceTech and digital safety workshops, and scaling library resources to serve more students across the region. To achieve these, we will need more resources and better engagement from parents who are still keeping girls at home to do chores and marry rather than educationg them.
