Many thanks for donating to HHP's "Volunteer Patient Advocacy Fund."
Your financial support is helping us to launch the Peer-Led Patient Navigation & Advocacy Program in 2019 in Belfast, Northern Ireland and Los Angeles, California with more cities planned from 2020.
The Peer-Led Patient Navigation & Advocacy research phase started in earnest in October 2018 with the first focus group in Belfast with experts knowledgeable in relation to patient advocacy and related subjects in Northern Ireland.
A second focus group took place in Belfast on February 6th with patients with “invisible illnesses” (Crohn’s, Lupus and Lyme Disease), where we explored the needs of patients and their condition community organizations.
Out of the focus groups and 1on1 meeting with patients and potential partners in Belfast and LA, we have developed an MVP (minimum viable product) for the delivery of patient navigation, advocacy and education, integrated with real-world data which is currently shared on the HHP website for migraine and lupus. We have given this product the name “IMPACT”.
With an emphasis on underserved populations, the IMPACT program will help patients and caregivers navigate their healthcare system and help them understand their healthcare benefits and the resources available to them.
Patient advocates and peer navigators provide support and a voice for patients who feel misunderstood, have difficulty finding information, or are simply overwhelmed by the complexity of their healthcare system. They connect patients to community programs, assist them with finding additional information, and help decrease the stress that comes with deteriorating health.
Our target pilot launch date for IMPACT in Belfast Northern Ireland is September 2019. Work is underway on developing IMPACT as well as Navigator and Advocate education. We are also researching and developing operational and budgeting for the launch of the program as well as identifying and starting communication with potential foundations that might fund the patient advocacy program going forward.
We are now actively recruiting patient navigators and advocates in LA and Belfast. If you know anyone that might be interested, please visit https://humanhealthproject.org/hhp-pa/ Volunteers can be local or work remotely.
