Helping Children Overcome Domestic Abuse

Thank you so much for supporting the vital work that we do both in refuge and in the community.

We are still trying to raise the necessary money to be able to run another programme for children and their Mum's in the community.

Each 12 week programme can only be for children of a very similar age so that they can talk to each other and that language is kept age appropriate.

To be able to help more children through their experience of Domestic Abuse would be fantastic. Comments we get from the children when they have finished the programme reinforces how important it is for them to be able to share their experiences.

We recently ran a programme just for children as sadly we didnt have sufficient funds for their Mum's to attend as well.

The children benefited greatly by being able to share their experiences and sometimes distress with peers. Finding that they were not alone with their thoughts is a great comfort to children. Having it validated that the affects of the abuse was not their fault makes a huge difference to most children.

It would have been very positive to have had their Mums attend with them. This helps Mum's to understand the impact that the abuse has had on their children and gives them the opportunity to get help in talking about it to each other.
