Rates of school enrollment for Afghan children in Pakistan are incredibly low. Cultural barriers, low parent awareness, and severe poverty, coupled with poor school infrastructure and a lack of resources frequently result in Afghan children missing out on the chance of going to school.
This project breaks down the barriers that prevent Afghan children from accessing education. We have introduced enrollment campaigns where RI staff teach Afghan parents about the benefits of education, and how to enroll their children in schools. We have developed a school readiness program where children can go to "catch up" educationally with their peers. And we are ensuring the sustainability of schooling in the region through improvements and repairs of school infrastructure.
