Update on education for Afghans in Pakistan

By James Darnbrook | Senior Communications Officer

Thousands of Afghan refugee families continue to be unable to access schooling for their children all around Pakistan.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where over 50% of all Afghan refugees live, Relief International (RI) is working around the clock to change this.

RI already has an existing catch-up program in this province that has helped almost 10,000 children between ages 5-9 to catch up so they can join public governtment schools.

Over the last three months though, RI has introduced a new Accelerated Learning Program for older children between the ages of 10-14 who have never been to school or have not completed their primary education.

This new program will help these middle school aged children to catch up with their peers and eventually join or rejoin public government schools in their communities.

RI is working with staff in 70 government schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to implement this new program, and has already hired facilitators and developed an accelerated curriculum for program participants to follow.

Donate now to continue support our life-changing education work for Afghan children in Pakistan.
