Succeeding in Difficult Circumstances
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc on people and their access to education around the world.
Worldwide cases of COVID-19 are nearing 275 million, with 1,101,195 new cases reported in the last 7 days. 543,414 of these have been reported in the last 24 hours alone! (These are just official numbers, meaning that there are likely many, many more.)
The good news is that approximately 44% of the world’s population has been “fully vaccinated”. The bad news is that what it means to be "fully" vaccinated changes daily as new variants of concern are identified which evade vaccine protections. The access to vaccines has also been uneven - meaning that in many parts of the world, very tiny percentages of the population have been vaccinated even as case numbers continue to rise. COVID-19 continues to disrupt access to education and to create additional challenges and barriers for women working to complete their degrees.
Although their situations continue to be difficult, the three women featured here continue to strive for excellence and to succeed despite the difficult circumstances!
