In anticipation of the storms caused by the El Nino phenomenon expected in Argentina, volunteer firefighters are preparing to provide assistance in emergency situations related to flooding, rising river levels, landslides, and rescue operations. In the coming months, most of the country's provinces are expected to be affected by this phenomenon. So far, around 4,000 people have already been evacuated due to rising river levels and damaged roads.
Due to the El Nino phenomenon, above-normal rainfall is expected in the Litoral region, western Santa Fe, Cordoba, La Pampa, Buenos Aires, and northeastern Patagonia. In addition, there is a possibility of extreme weather events, such as more intense storms than usual, in the central and northeastern parts of the country.
Volunteer firefighters need to be prepared and equipped, which enables them to save lives at risk, carry out evacuation procedures, and transport children and older adults. So far, firefighters have assisted more than 5,000 people, ensuring their safe evacuation, providing first aid, and protecting families affected by the storms.
The assistance provided by firefighters enables a safe return to homes following an emergency; they help adults or individuals with reduced mobility return to their residences, or keep them in safe areas until water levels recede.
