Three groups, a total of 6 meetings and 15 hours of online training, 120 applications and 45 women's support centres involved: as pleased as we are with the numbers reached with the first edition of Radia, what exceeded our expectations and filled us with joy is the response from the frontline workers that participated in the training.
Their motivation to expand their knowledge and learn new ways to recognise tech-enabled gender violence and support women at the receiving end of the abuse was the best reward for all our hard work.
We designed the training to be as interactive as possible, a format that created a profoundly enriching exchange. On one side, we were able to dig deeper and develop our initial research on gender-based digital violence in Italy; on the other, the participants had the chance to discuss the topic not only with us but also with their peers from different parts of the country.
We wanted to share some of the touching testimonials from the attendees, highlighting the need to investigate such a delicate matter as tech-enabled gender-based abuse, a topic that is still secondary in the public debate, despite numbers and facts showing a phenomenon on the rise.
"I thought I knew the topic at least a little bit; I discovered a whole new world."
"We all use technology for different things and in different contexts without being truly aware of its implications, potential and consequences.
Project Radia allowed me to focus on all of this and bring it into my work supporting women who survived violence and abuse."
"Training opportunities like this are more necessary than ever."
"The instructors from the project know well the work of the women support centres: the training is close to the spaces it was designed for."
"It really was an experience worth repeating."
We've received way more applications than we could accommodate, and we're working hard to produce new and updated editions of the training to reach as many frontline workers as possible and other institutions and organisations.
