The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a notable decrease in access to essential health education for young people across the world. Lack of access to these opportunities has a major impact on young people’s, particularly women and girls, ability to live happy and self-determined lives.
PCI Media recently partnered with the UCLA Art and Global Health Center to host a series of workshops for UCLA’s Sex Squad, a group of students who use humor, theater, and storytelling to open up urgent conversations on taboo topics surrounding sex.
The workshops explored how to integrate principles of Entertainment-Education into programming aimed at improving pregnancy prevention among youth juvenile detention centers. Through focused discussions with other students and juvenile center alums, UCLA students learned about the experiences of youth in the juvenile justice system and how to develop the storytelling foundations (character, plot, and dialogue) to tackle these serious issues.
Stay tuned! We just kicked off a partnership with the Policy & Research Group to use entertainment-education to address sexual and reproductive health of youth involved in American the juvenile justice system.
