Over the last few months, work has been continuing behind the scenes at the Ontario Southland shops where our café-bar-lounge and baggage car are being prepared for their repaint into VIA blue and yellow.
There is a lot of work involved in this process. A good paint job requires careful preparation of the surface, with basic repairs, masking, and sandblasting to be done all before a speck of paint is applied. This is also the time to repair any major damage that the cars sustained. In the case of our café-bar-lounge, the loading door by the café area was damaged before we acquired the car, and a window was damaged by vandals during transport. Making these repairs before painting is a critical part of the restoration process.
The café-bar-lounge is now close to receiving its first coat of paint, and the baggage car is ready to follow shortly after. All being well, both cars will be returned to their classic VIA appearance before the end of the year.
