Help Us Glean More Produce for Hunger Relief in CO

For the first time in 2021, UpRoot expanded its gleaning initiative into three additional Colorado counties (Broomfield, Delta, and Larimer) bringing the total number of counties where we work to 10. We conducted outreach, began to develop relationships, and hosted successful gleaning events in these counties, along with the seven where we have historically worked. The expansion of our geographic reach into these new areas of the state will allow us to create more positive impact in the Colorado food system by reducing more of the surplus food that remains unharvested/unsold on farms, increasing nutritional security for more Coloradans facing food insecurity, highlighting the hard work of an increasing number of local food producers, and creating opportunities for more volunteers to reconnect with the sources of our food. 

As we begin the sixth year of our work, we have much more listening and learning and many more accomplishments ahead. Frankly, there is too much suffering, too much hunger, too much economic inequity in this land of abundance, and too much dysfunction in our current food system—a food system in which we are all participants whether we realize it or not (we need more members of the community to realize it).

Creating a more equitable food system will require the participation of many. Thank you for supporting our work and the expansion of our programming in 2021.
