Help Ukrainian Refugees Access Mental Health!

The work continues to expand and grow!

By Christine Cronin | Executive Director

We are deeply grateful for your support of those displaced by the war in Ukraine. Your generosity is helping restore dignity, hope, and healing to people who have been forced to flee their homes, leaving behind everything and everyone they know. Through your partnership, individuals and families who have endured profound loss, uncertainty, and trauma are finding safe spaces for care, connection, and recovery.

AWB Netherlands continues to serve Ukrainian refugees alongside other displaced populations. What began as a small initiative has grown into a network of 10 active clinic sites across the Netherlands, supported by dozens of trained trauma-informed care volunteers. In the past six months alone, more than 2,500 treatments have been provided, helping participants find relief from stress, anxiety, trauma, and emotional overwhelm while navigating the challenges of displacement and resettlement.

The impact of this work extends beyond direct care. Through ongoing practitioner education and training, including a trauma-informed care training in Frankfurt this May, we are expanding our capacity to serve those in need.

At the same time, Alma Community Therapies in Greece continues to offer healing-centered services that support Ukrainian refugees alongside other displaced populations. Through opportunities for support, movement, self-care, writing, and community connection, participants find a welcoming space where they can rebuild a sense of belonging and begin to heal.

The need for these services remains significant. Every day, newly arrived refugees carry the invisible wounds of grief, fear, and trauma. One practitioner from the Netherlands shared a moment that has stayed with them:

A 17-year-old refugee who had been sleeping only three hours a night for months reported that, after two weeks of ear acupuncture treatments, he had been able to sleep eight hours every night.

Stories like this remind us that healing is possible when people are given the care, safety, and support they need.

Your support makes this work possible. With continued funding, we can sustain existing clinics and programs, train additional trauma-informed practitioners, and expand services to reach even more refugees and displaced families.

Thank you for everything you do to make the world a more compassionate place for all.
