In Goma, North Kivu, deaf-blind children face barriers that can make education feel out of reach. Conventional textbooks, classroom activities and communication methods are often not designed for children who cannot see or hear. Through our Helping the Deaf-Blind with Educational Materials project, the Nguvu Yetu Center for Deaf and Disadvantaged Children is working to change this reality by creating access to adapted educational materials, tactile learning tools and teacher training. Our goal is simple but deeply important: to help deaf-blind children learn, communicate, develop their abilities and participate more fully in their communities.
We are currently in the preparation and resource-mobilization phase of the project. Our team is identifying trainers with the appropriate skills and identifying the learners who will benefit from the initiative. At the same time, we are continuing to mobilize the resources required to begin the planned activities. Our total project goal is USD 12,000, and we are grateful to have already received USD 404 in donations. While this is only the beginning, every contribution gives us encouragement and brings us one step closer to providing children with the specialized educational support they need.
We are deeply grateful to our donors for believing in this project and in the potential of deaf-blind children. We also extend our sincere appreciation to GlobalGiving for providing a platform that connects our local work in Goma with compassionate supporters around the world. Through this collaboration, we believe we can reach our fundraising goal and move from preparation to implementation. We invite more donors to join us on this journey. Your support can help provide accessible learning materials and strengthen the capacity of teachers to serve children who are too often excluded from quality education. Together, we can help open a door that should never have been closed: the door to learning, dignity, independence and hope.
