The small fishermen in Barangay Bislig of Tanauan town (Leyte Province, Philippines) were terribly affected by typhoon Yolanda. All their houses were wiped out. As a result some are living in makeshifts. Some are living in tents given by a foreign NGO. Yolanda not only destroyed their houses, all the fishing boats of the fishermen were also ravaged depriving them of their source of living. Children's Joy Foundation, Inc. saw the pity condition of the fishermen in this community. In its own way distributed fishing boats to a number of fishermen who are in badly need of support.
Ricardo Cadia, fondly called Ricky, is one of the recipients of the fishing boats. He grew up as a fisherman because his father is also a fisherman. After the typhooon, with his ingenuity and desire to get back to the sea to catch fish for his family, assembled a refrigerator box and made it as a fishing boat. Afterwhich he hoped the ref-boat would glide over the sea waters. His effort proved him right as the ref-boat sailed over the coastal waters of Barangay Bislig like a normal boat. In fact he was able to catch some milkfish from the destroyed fishponds.
Together with other recipients, Ricky was so happy because his dream came true when Children's Joy Foundation in partnership with Globalgiving gave him a real fishing boat. His father and mother thanked the blessing of answered prayer as they now have their source of living that gave them peace of mind.
From the bottom of their hearts, THANK YOU CHILDREN'S JOY AND GLOBALGIVING!!! a loud shout of joy from the recipients.
