Kindness Knows No Limit

By Eunice Ambrocio | CJFI Correspondent

CJFI relief: It's too many and too heavy to carry.
CJFI relief: It's too many and too heavy to carry.

The aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan's attack caused not only physical damage of properties and infrastructure to the affected Filipinos but phychological distress as well. Hopelessness, fear and anxiety are among the emotions most evident upon the eyes of all the survivors, all wondering how they could start over their with lives or how they could carry on living each day after Yolanda's wrath.

However, through the continous help and support of kind-hearted individuals, the Children's Joy Foundation, INC. was able to tend to the immediate needs of the survivors in the Central Visayas area right after the said typhoon. And currently, CJFI volunteers on-the-field are delivering unlimited hot meals and bucket-fulls of relief goods to the survivors on regular intervals.

Mineheart, a CJF volunteer, who was assigned on giving hot porridge to the survivors everyday, stated that after they have been staying with our Waray brethren since day-three of Yolanda's aftermath, they asked the survivors why they would line up for a cooked meal whereas they could have lined-up for packs of relief goods which might have lasted longer, but they would say, "We have been eating canned goods since the typhoon, and we don't mind lining up, this is a treat for us."

"As a volunteer, I almost wanted to make an appeal to stop giving them canned goods, but then, I was thinking, what could we give them? It takes a whole sleepless night for the volunteers and five pigs who we have to sacrifice just to prepare a hearty lunch for 2,000 people, but it doesn't matter, because we know that every single meal is always life changing, especially to a child," Mineheart Tantoy, a CJFI volunteer on-field said.

He added, "The CJFI volunteers didn't mind exhaustion, as long as we can continue to reach out to the typhoon victims, it was a good enough repayment of all our efforts. But the most fulling part of the day is the very moment when from the children's sad faces breaks a whole-hearted and genuine smile."

The Children's Joy Foundation, Inc.'s immediate response to Typhoon Yolanda victims wouldn't have been made possible without the aid of hundreds of generous individuals and sponsors who didn't hesitate on sending their support for the survivors. And from the CJFI family, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude and thankfulness to the GlobalGiving community that served as a valuable avenue for sponsors to connect with the foundation in response to the said disaster.

Your kindness and concern for those in need brought forth rays of hope for a better tomorrow. Every donation given will surely serve its purpose. Every penny of kindness offered will wholly be used for the survivors. And every love shared will always be enough to say, "You are not forgotten. There are people who are willing to help in times of desperate need."

Currently, Filipinos from the typhoon-affected areas are slowly recuperating from the devastation. But, as it takes time, we must continue to extend them our guiding hands until they can once again stand their ground.
