Hello and happy holidays to all of our wonderful supporters. We hope this report finds you well and enjoying this season in whatever way makes you happy. We are pleased to share this report, even though we can hardly believe we have come to the year's end!
While we did not host a clinic in Huanchaco this year, in line with our new approach to better empower those working on the ground, we are excited about all the activities that have been happening there, a few of which we will cover in this update.
To begin, one of our partners, Huanchaco al Rescate has been very busy. Unfortunately, another shelter in the area with 43 dogs was abandoned and Ursula and others scrambled to find temporary homes for the dogs. Additionally, she has been working to get veterinary care for some of the dogs there that were in need of immediate help. We are very grateful that she stepped up in this manner as she is already doing so much. On a brighter note, Ursula is currently planning a holiday event to solicit donated food and other resources as well as to promote adoption and highlight some of the dogs ready for forever homes.
Our other partner, Amigo Fiel has been continuing their efforts to provide necessary surgeries for dogs generally considered to be community dogs where a person is looking after them, but cannot afford their care. In addition to combatting TVT and other persistent diseases found in the area, they are using our funds to pay for various surgeries for dogs in need. For example, last week Rabito, an eight-year-old dog, was operated on to address a painful hernia. Bertha reports that he is currently recovering well. Finally, members of Amigo Fiel have been rescuing some dogs that are in bad condition such as Bobby and.Negra who were living in a local park and in need of medical attention. They are now up for adoption through the informal network the group runs to identify suitable guardians.
As you can tell, your general support is being well used by those directly helping the street dogs of Huanchaco - whether its funds to support Amigo Fiel's ongoing efforts to keep the dogs vaccinated or the spreading of some holiday cheer to those awaiting forever homes in the Huanchaco al Rescate shelter. We hope this report brightens your day and we continue to be forever grateful for all that you do to come alongside us in our efforts.
With gratitude and appreciation,
Courtney and Matt
