The first school year in the schools built by the Rava Foundation in Arquata del Tronto, Norcia, Cascia, Eggi and Pieve Torina, has been exciting for all the students, from kindergarden to middle school.
We are flanking the families and teachers by organizing and partecipating in several educational workshops for the classes. In Pieve Torina we sponsored the construction of a vegetable garden. The children from 3 years of age this spring seeded the seeds, and are following the growth of their little plants.
In April we delivered tech blackboards for the classrooms of the Middle School in Cascia and a science lab is in the making.
For high school students, we are collaborating with Italian Universities. Up to now we have given 6 grants for three year college courses in Milano to students from the area.
We also believe that it is important to disseminate the experience of the children that lived through the eartquake among their peers. We have developed a program of presentations of the book AICRON and workshops in primary schools across Italy.
AICRON stands for Norcia and is a book created and proposed by the Rava Foundation to raise public awareness of the situation of children after the earthquake in Central Italy and show the projects completed by the Foundation in the earthquake-stricken countries. It's composed of the materials of the art laboratories led in the primary school of Norcia and merges with the creative work of famous authors. The book intends to be a testimony of the Foundation's commitment to children, especially in the reconstruction of their schools, but not only this: it is also a book of stories to read to other children like them, to symbolically unite them in this work of reconstruction.
The concept of the worshops we are leading in the schools is to create a new village, where every child creates his or her own building. Everyone decides at the beginning which building to create, using his imagination and the proposed materials and following the indications provided. The new village is then hung in the classroom.
